My dream job
I am studying forestry engineering and I would like to work at Conaf, whose main function is to manage the forestry policy of Chile. I would like to work in a reserve or national park in order to conserve and restore native forests. I would be far from my home since it is a very remote place, it is in Alto Bio Bio, it is in the mountain range, I would have to go in a 4x4 car since the road is complicated and in winter it is worse because of the snow and rain.
I
imagine it as a quiet job, since it's miles away from civilizations, just me
and nature, plus a couple of co-workers. To work in a reserve or park, you
would have to know how to plan, program, direct, manage and administer, and you
would also have to know about ecology and environmental impact and forest
protection. I would like to earn enough to live well and to be able to travel,
the advantages are that I like what I am studying, everything related to
conservation and restoration and the disadvantage is that the country is still
focused on large-scale timber production and with very little forest
management, so there are monocultures and the diversity of species is lost,
soils are eroded and it becomes more complex to return the forests to their
natural state, in addition to the plantations generate large fires that affect
people, animals and forests in general, this is a super complex problem that
foresters have to solve.
